Galapagos Islands: Between Iguanas & Sea Lions

My name is Morgane, I am from Belgium and I study Tourism and Recreation management.

I think this is one of the main reasons I fell in love with traveling. The first time I traveled alone was for an internship to Tenerife. There, I realized that traveling alone is the best way to get to know others. Now, I have friends all over the world and even more reasons to travel more in order to visit them.

The Galapagos islands: Isabela

In June 2018 I decided to travel to the Galapagos Islands. I was in Ecuador for an internship and this seemed like the perfect occasion to go visit this magical place. I stayed there for 5 days and visited two of the three main islands: Santa Cruz and Isabela. I decided to write about this experience because it was one of my best travels ever.

From the beginning I knew the Galapagos wouldn’t be one of my cheapest travels, but it was worth every dollar. I decided to spend most of my time on the island Isabela, because a lot of people told me it was one of their favorite islands. You have to cross Santa Cruz before you go to other islands. There you can take a public speedboat to other islands, which will cost you around $30 p.p.

When I arrived to Isabela some sea lions greeted me and I had to be careful not to step on one of the Iguanas. It still amazes me how they don’t really care about humans and stay very calm.

I did several activities on Isabela island, my favorite was for sure the Los Tuneles snorkeling tour. I saw a lot of different animals: sharks, sea turtles, tropical fish and much more. Not only the beautiful view stole my heart, but also the food was amazing. I am a big seafood fanatic, so you could imagine how happy it made me feel to eat it every single day.

I would definitely recommend traveling to the Galapagos Islands if you are interested in having a close encounter with animals and if you are more of a ‘sea-person’ in general.

Galapagos Islands, I will be back.
